All the money collected in the Miles 4 Matt Program will go to Autism Speaks Inc. This contribution will fund autism research, awareness, advocacy and family services. With your support, we will transform a community of heartbreak into a community of hope.
One in 150 children is diagnosed with autism. For all the children and families affected by this disorder -- and all those who will be -- the time to act is now.
7,000 Walkers in Cleveland
Raise more than $354,000 in 2008
On Sunday, September 28, 2008,
7,000 people walked at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland
Indians, for the 2nd annual Cleveland
Walk Now for Autism.
The walkers, on nearly 350 teams, raised over $354,000.
Entertainment at the
Walk was varied and
plentiful and included children's games and bounce houses. Music
was provided by a competition singing group from Mentor High
School and DJ Nick Zappitelli. Children met Star Wars
characters, monkeys and a kangaroo. Seth Qwast, a local artist
with autism, displayed his artwork. The event was emceed by
Eileen McShea and Bill Safos, on-air personalities from WKYC-3.
Alex Kulik from the Cleveland Clinic Center spoke during the
opening ceremonies.
The
Walk hosted a resource fair which showcased 34
companies and organizations, including Nature's Bin, which
provided gluten free snacks, Cleveland Clinic, Akron Children's
Hospital, Morgan Stanley, Music Therapy and Vitamin Water.
A number of generous sponsors contributed to the success of the Cleveland Walk Now for Autism, especially Children's Hospital at the Cleveland Clinic, which served as a Gold Sponsor. Morgan Stanley and the Akron Children's Hospital served as Silver Sponsors and Pat and Sandy Marron made a financial contribution to the Walk. Many thanks to returning Walk Chairs Jennifer Detering, Kathy Masterson and Tess Norvell for making the Cleveland Walk such a success.
